HandymanService.ie is a booking platform, not a building contractor. Your booking fee is a small platform fee for matching you with a handyman and managing the booking. It does not go towards the handyman's charges. The work itself is carried out by an independent, insured handyman, not our employee, and you pay them directly on site once you're happy it's done.

Flat-pack and carpentry look simple until a wardrobe racks out of square, a cam lock spins uselessly in stripped board, or a fitted shelf pulls out of the plasterboard with the first load. With HandymanService.ie your carpentry is done by a vetted, experienced, insured tradesperson who builds it square, fixes it into something solid, and leaves it right the first time. No wobble, no second visit, no quietly hoping it holds.
Every cabinet, wardrobe and chest is assembled loose, checked for square across the diagonals and against a spirit level, then tightened in sequence. Cam locks are seated by feel (roughly 8 to 12 Nm), never cranked, so the board grips instead of stripping. Dowels go to the correct depth (around 15 to 18mm) so the cam can actually bite and the panel does not bow.
Tall wardrobes, bookcases and chests of drawers are anchored to the wall as a standard tip-over safety step, never left freestanding and top-heavy. We identify the wall type first: studs are located with a detector and the load spread across them, cavity walls get proper toggle or expanding anchors into the structural leaf, and masonry gets the correct plug and screw. We check for pipes and cables before any hole is drilled.
Internal corners are scribed, not lazily butted or mitred, so they stay closed when timber moves and no gap opens up over the heating season. External corners are mitred and glued. Joints are cut clean for a fit that holds before any filler, then flexible decorator's caulk seals the top edge to the wall for a crisp painted finish.
Pilot holes, clean countersinks and adjustable-torque driving are done with professional DeWalt power tools, so MDF and particleboard are not split, blown out or stripped by an over-driven screw. Shelving and fitted pieces are levelled and packed where a wall is out of true, so doors hang evenly and drawers run flush rather than catching.
Overtightening cam locks and screws into MDF or particleboard, which compresses and strips the fibres so the joint loosens within weeks
The cost: The whole unit starts to rack and wobble, and because the board is already chewed out there is nothing left to grip, so it often means scrapping panels and rebuilding from new parts
Forcing dowels and mixed-up factory hardware into the wrong holes
The cost: A forced dowel splits the panel edge and the wrong screw strips the pilot hole, leaving visible damage on brand-new furniture and a weak point that fails under everyday use
Fixing a wardrobe or heavy shelf into plasterboard alone, or skipping the wall anchor entirely
The cost: The fixings pull out under load, bringing the shelf and its contents down, damaging the wall and risking serious injury, especially a tip-over onto a child
Butting or mitring internal trim corners instead of scribing them
The cost: Gaps open up as the timber shrinks, the joints crack along the painted line, and you are left looking at an unmistakably amateur finish that needs re-doing
Other platforms hand your build to whoever bids lowest, and you find out it was wrong when the wardrobe leans or the shelf comes off the wall. We send a trusted, insured carpenter who does it right the first time, so it is safe, square and built to stay that way.
