A wall-mounted TV is heavy glass and electronics held up by a handful of fixings, so it is only ever as safe as the wall behind it and the hands that hung it. At HandymanService.ie we treat every mount as a structural job, not a five-minute favour, because a TV that drops takes the screen, the wall and your trust down with it. Your installer is vetted, experienced and insured, and hangs it once so it stays exactly where it should for years.
Before a single hole is drilled we map the wall with a stud and live-cable detector to find timber studs, the metal channels in drylined and dot-and-dab walls, and any pipes or cables hidden behind the plasterboard. We confirm whether you have solid block, brick, or plasterboard on battens, because each one needs a completely different fixing. That five minutes of detection is the difference between a TV anchored to structure and a TV hanging on hope.
Into timber studs we use proper structural lag bolts driven to full depth, not short screws that only catch the edge. On brick and concrete we drill with the correct masonry bit and set the bracket on rated wall plugs or sleeve anchors fixed into the solid body of the block, never the soft mortar joint. On plasterboard with no stud behind the bracket we use heavy-duty spreading anchors such as GripIt or steel toggles, and where the wall genuinely cannot take the load we tell you straight and fit a backing batten rather than pretend.
We check your TV against the VESA pattern and the bracket's real weight rating, then size the fixings to it. Flat, tilt and full-motion mounts each load the wall differently, and a full-motion arm multiplies the leverage when it is extended, so it needs more fixing points and a stronger wall. We level the bracket with a spirit level, seat the TV fully onto the hooks, and engage every locking screw so a knock or an upward jolt cannot lift it off.
For a clean look we route HDMI and low-voltage cables through the wall using fire-rated brush plates and recessed boxes, keeping mains power to a safe in-wall route or tidy trunking we can paint to match. Soundbars, floating shelves, pictures, mirrors, curtain poles and blinds get the same care: marked, levelled, drilled and fixed square. We tidy up, hoover the dust and leave the wall looking like the TV was always meant to be there.
Our installers carry DeWalt professional drills and drivers with the masonry and wood bits to suit your wall, plus calibrated levels and detectors. A clean, true hole means the anchor seats fully and the bracket sits dead level, which is exactly why the finish lasts and the TV does not creep or tilt over time.
Screwing the bracket straight into plasterboard, or catching only the edge of a stud, so the fixings slowly chew through the board and pull out
The cost: Weeks or months later the top of the mount lets go and the TV swings down or falls, smashing a screen worth hundreds and gouging the wall it lands against
Drilling masonry fixings into the soft mortar joint instead of the solid brick or block, or using undersized plugs that feel tight on the day
The cost: The anchors work loose under the constant pull of the weight and the whole bracket sags away from the wall, needing the holes filled, re-drilled and the wall made good
Fitting a full-motion arm to a wall that cannot take the leverage, or not fully seating and locking the TV onto the bracket
The cost: The first time the arm is extended or the TV is nudged it unhooks or rips the fixings out, and you pay a second tradesperson to do the job properly
Running mains cable loose behind the wall with no fire-rated plate, or leaving wires trailing and trunking crooked
The cost: You fail any future electrical or rental inspection, risk an unsafe in-wall run, and the tidy look you paid for ends up looking like a rushed DIY job
Cheap mounting platforms hand your TV to whoever bids lowest, and that is usually someone cutting corners on fixings or learning on your wall. With HandymanService.ie a vetted, insured and genuinely experienced installer hangs it once, square, secure and tidy, so it stays exactly where it should and you can simply sit down and watch it.
