HandymanService.ie is a booking platform, not a building contractor. Your booking fee is a small platform fee for matching you with a handyman and managing the booking. It does not go towards the handyman's charges. The work itself is carried out by an independent, insured handyman, not our employee, and you pay them directly on site once you're happy it's done.

Outside work in the Irish climate is unforgiving. Rain, frost and damp find every shortcut a cheap operator takes, and the cost lands on you the following winter. Our handymen are vetted, experienced and insured, and they treat your fences, decking, gutters and outdoor fittings as work that has to survive years of weather, not just look fine the day they leave. Done properly the first time, so you are not paying a second tradesperson to put it right.
Softwood decking is cleaned around 500 to 600 psi with a wide 25 or 40 degree fan, kept moving and held back from the boards so the soft spring grain is never torn open. We let the timber dry for several dry days before any treatment goes on, then sand rough fibres and apply a proper oil or stain. The job is wash, repair, sand and seal, not just a blast and walk away.
We dig deep enough, add a gravel base for drainage and slope the postcrete collar away from the timber so water runs off instead of pooling at the post. A few inches of post is left clear of the concrete for airflow, end grain is treated, and the fix is left the full 24 to 48 hours to cure before the gate goes back on its hinges square and true.
Leaves, moss and silt are scooped out by hand with a plastic scoop, never a metal scraper that scratches the coating and starts rust. Downpipes are rodded and flushed, not hammered, then we run water through to prove the whole run drains and check the brackets and fascia for the sagging and rot that a backed-up gutter causes.
Outdoor taps are fitted with an indoor isolation valve so you can drain the line before frost, and the run is lagged. Exterior lights are installed to the correct IP rating (IP65 for most wall and ground positions) with proper glands and weatherproof connections, using DeWalt professional tools, so water never reaches a live connection.
Shed roofs are re-felted with the laps and capping nailed and dressed correctly so wind-driven rain cannot track underneath. Bare and weathered timber is cleaned, treated end to end and re-coated so the structure is protected before damp gets a hold, rather than patched after it has already softened.
Blasting decking at full pressure to clean it fast
The cost: Over 1,500 psi the water tears the soft grain into deep grooves the trade calls tiger striping, which trap water, invite rot and cannot be sanded out without removing the board, so you pay to replace decking that only needed a careful wash
Sealing or oiling timber while it is still damp
The cost: Moisture gets sealed into the wood, weakening it and feeding mould from the inside, and the finish lifts and flakes within a season, so the whole deck or fence has to be stripped and redone
Setting a post too deep with no drainage
The cost: Concrete packed tight around the timber with no gravel base traps water against the post, so it rots from the buried section up, the fence leans, and you are digging out a set concrete footing to replace a post that should have lasted a decade
Scraping gutters with metal and hammering downpipes
The cost: Metal scrapers gouge the protective coating so the gutter rusts through, and hammering cracks PVC and dents joints, so a clean-up job turns into replacing whole sections of guttering and repairing water-stained fascia
Outdoor jobs are where corner-cutting hides until the next storm or frost exposes it. We do this work to last through Irish weather, by a tradesperson you can trust, so you book it once and forget about it. That is what your trusted Handyman Service means outside the house as much as inside it.
